Raia’s Pets:  Friends from other worlds…

Although Raia Glossman is human, she only remembers one world—the alien one where she was raised by her Tearnat Guardian, Ander Rays. Her love for exploration and new discoveries comes from Ander.

While on a quest to find the perfect birthday gift, she instead finds two very unusual, and powerful, furry friends. Now all she has to do is explain to her Tearnat guardian why they should be allowed to stay despite his ‘no pets’ policy!

Chummy, a Quazin Chumloo, is a rare species with powerful abilities that few know about. Captured by poachers, he is rescued from certain death by the inquisitive and equally talented Pi. Unfortunately, not even Pi has the ability to completely free him.

Pi, a Marica Peekaboo, loves the marketplace. It is a treasure trove of goodies to eat and wonderful shiny objects to steal. With each new arrival, she finds something unique to add to her hidden collection of stolen goods—including Chummy and a strange alien girl named Raia.

Three very different worlds collide, and freedom for an entire species is at stake. Can a friendship forged in a back alley be powerful enough to survive an immense alien universe where danger lurks at every turn?

Behr’s Rebel:  Two battles:  One fights for a cause; the other fights for survival…

General Behr De’Mar, leader of the Marastin Dow rebel forces, knows that it is only a matter of time before he is caught and executed. It doesn’t matter to him. The cause he is fighting for is much larger than any one person—or so he thought.

Raia Glossman doesn’t know what to think when she is hired by the strange, purple-skinned aliens. After all, the Marastin Dow are known for their cutthroat, kill anything-that-moves mentality. Why would they need a lone human woman to rescue their General? But credits are credits, and Raia never turns down a chance to earn a tidy sum. Besides, it seems like an easy job for her and her two innovative pets, Chummy and Pi. They’ll get in, rescue the guy, collect their credits, and disappear again. The three of them perfected that little trick years ago. This time however, she is on the run with an army of Marastin Dow warriors on her tail! Not to mention that she is stuck with a tantalizing General, and she discovers she is the new poster-girl for the Marastin Dow Revolution. So much for anonymity!

Behr knows the moment he meets Raia and her two pets that they are special. Can he keep them alive and safe against the massive army threatening to end their hope of a new way of life, or will the history of the Marastin Dow’s savagery doom them all?

Teaser/Excerpt:

A knot formed in Behr’s throat as he watched her. Over the past several days, emotions that he didn’t realize he possessed had flared to life. The more time he spent with Raia and her two adorable pets, the more he wanted.

He followed Raia at a slower pace as she hurried down the ramp. Despite the beauty and grandeur of the city, it was nothing compared to Raia. Her hair flowed around her like the wind-driven waves of the ocean. Her laughter echoed through the plaza.

It was impossible to miss the way her dark blue shirt hugged her full breasts and her black trousers clung to her hips. She twisted around and waved for him to follow her. In that instant, an intense emotion hit him hard.

I’m falling in love with her, he realized.

Geez…$8.99 for a fiction e-book? And you’re not in Kindle Unlimited! I love your books, but I don’t know when I’ll get to read this one!

Hi HB. This one is a two in one with Behr’s Rebel and Raia’s Pets, a full length novel and a novella. It’s not always easy balancing the rising cost of being in business. We hope you’re able to curl up with this next instalment in the Marastin Dow series soon.
      Cheers Narelle

I agree. I have loved and purchased the majority of your books but I will never pay 8.99 for a ebook . Especially if it’s less than 230 pages! I know costs have risen , but this is crazy. I would rather eat. Sorry but it’s the truth. We realize you work hard and put in many hours, but you just reduced your following at least by one.

Hi, Peggi. Susan is head down writing so I am hopping in here to respond to messages on her behalf. Book price increases can be difficult for both authors and readers and I am sorry that the new price is outside your budget. Thank you for your support of Susan in the past and we are sorry to see you go but we understand.

Hi 👋 I just picked up mine. I’ll be diving in to read it. I don’t have a problem paying for my favorite authors. It’s not the first time nor the last that I’ve paid $8 to $9 for an ebook. I know it’s going to be a great escape.

    1. S.E. Smith says:

You are awesome, Trescina. Thank you for understanding that being an author is hard work and appreciating how much time, effort, and money goes into being in business-and staying in it!

I enjoyed reading Behr’s Rebel, Marastin Dow Book 2. In the notes at the end of the story, Ms. Smith indicates that there is a Book 3, The Assassin’s Quest but I cannot locate it. Was this book actually written or is it not yet released??

    1. S.E. Smith says:

Hi Rhonda, The Assassin’s Quest isn’t out yet. I have totally fallen in love with the Marastin Dow world! Have you listened to Raia’s Song? I wrote an original song to go with this story/book. I promise it is coming. I know I have a lot of stories to write in a lot of different series. My hubby keeps telling me that is a good thing. He OBVIOUSLY has not seen inside my head. It is as cluttered as my office. LOL. Still, the stories will come. I wish I could write both faster and simultaneously-or, just clone myself. It would make life a million times easier!

Thank you, Karen, for supporting Susan’s books. I’m thrilled you love her stories! Me too! Cheers Narelle

  7. Rachel says:

Alright… what is the next one? Trying to find the follow up or any information when and if something will follow, sadly your timeline calendar ends in 2018 and your reading list by event doesn’t even include this book..
I like the Marastin Dow, Valdir, Curizan and Sarafin universe you’ve created.
I also couldn’t find Raia’s Song either as mentioned in one of the comments.
Help appreciated and much creativity, health and success for 2024!

    1. S.E. Smith says:

Hi Rachel. LOL. I’m writing! There never seems to be enough hours in the day to get everything finished. Raia’s Song is a song (music) that I wrote to go with this story.
