Choosing Riley excerpt

Riley St. Claire has always followed her own rules. When she discovers her current employer is not as law abiding as she thought, she has to leave town in a hurry or end up buried with the dead guy she discovered. What she doesn’t expect is to find herself being picked up by a passing trader from another world.

As the ruling King of Sarafin, Vox d’Rojah, was expected to produce a son who would be joined in marriage with the first born daughter of the King of Valdier. The problem was Vox had no intentions of having any sons, at least not in the near future. He was quite happy with the wide selection of females he had at his disposal. When he is captured by a ruthless Valdier royal and sold to a mining operation the last thing he expected to find with his bride mate.

Vox isn’t sure which would be easier: fighting another war with the Valdier or capturing and holding onto the human female who is unlike anything he has ever encountered before.

Now, Vox has to escape back to his world while fighting pirates, traders, and Riley!

The King of Sarafin has met his match with Ms. Riley St. Claire from Earth. Now, he just needs to figure out a way to let her know he has chosen her as his Queen and he has every intention of keeping her by his side forever.

Viper's Mate

Viper’s Defiant Mate: Sarafin Warriors Book 2

Prince Viper d’Rojah, a warrior from the Sarafin cat shifter species, is not happy when he is sent on a special mission by his older brother Vox, King of the Sarafin. The mission is to deliver important documents to the human authorities before kidnapping the sister and grandmother of Vox’s mate, Riley. He has handled tougher assignments in his sleep and just wants to get back to finding the traitors trying to kill him and his family!

Tina St. Claire was finally happy with her life until her big sister, Riley, suddenly disappeared. Even Grandma Pearl suspected that Riley’s ex-employer was hiding something. Determined to find Riley, Tina’s research unwittingly leads the danger to her and Grandma Pearl. The unexpected arrival of a strange man causes things to go from bad to worse when he gives her and Grandma Pearl a packet of material he claims is from Riley.

Riley had warned Viper that neither her sister nor Grandma Pearl would willingly come with him. Viper could care less whether the females wanted to come or not, he had never failed a mission and wasn’t about to start now.

Viper soon discovers this mission has turned into the most important one of his life when both he and his cat recognize that Tina is their mate. Now, he has to keep Tina and her gun toting Grandmother alive. The question is, who is going to save him when both women discover his plans to kidnap them?

Did I miss Heart of the Cat?? I know you have started another series away from the dragons, cats and magic. But I’m missing them. Need more cats and magic in my day?

    • admin says:

  • Neeta says:

Hiya! Love love love your books, I think I’ve got and reread multiple times, every one. One thing I’m wondering if we’ll ever see though… a real come to jesus showdown when it comes to the heroes’ mating instincts overriding the heroines’ having a choice in the matter. It’s always a case of that mating instinct coming first and really very little about understanding what huge thing that lack of choice for the heroines is. It just gets all accepted and forgiven in a flash because of the “mighty wonderdong of love” and/or “it’s twoo lurve anyway” factor, and the fact that it’s done and now they have to get used to it… but I’d still love to see a hero who really gets slapped upside the head (literally and figuratively) by what a huge thing it is to a human 1) to have to accept it because it’s already a done deal, or they’re the “bad guy” responsible for some alien bloke’s death if they don’t cater to his mating imperative, and 2) to have their whole being changed/transformed into something “other” with no forewarning or explanations in advance or in fact any choice in the matter. I’d so love to see a hero really “get” how huge that is, and truly appreciate it, other than just the whole “it’s part of me, so she’ll come round in the end coz she’s my mate and will love me in the end anyway”.

    • S.E. Smith says:

Hi Neeta. I’ve actually written all the things you are talking about in one story or another. In Jaguin’s Love, Jaguin understands and fights to give Sara time to decide. She is the one that comes to him and tells him she wants to try. I think in pretty much all of them, the guys have a wake up that this is up to the woman, that she needs to be the one to finally decide. In Paul’s Pursuit, it is Paul (human) chasing Morian (alien). In Krac’s Firebrand, Skeeter (heroine) is definitely the one doing the chasing. Sara knew about being transformed, just as Cara, Ariel, and Paul did. In my different series, there are different situations. Gracie definitely made the decision, so did Lacey in Magic, New Mexico. Argh! LOL. I would love to sit and talk about this over a meal. It would totally be easier and more interesting. I’ll be in Australia next year, so hopefully then! I hope this helps!

Hi, thank you so much for this book, I am still laughing. Riley and her family are nuts are you sure the Sarafin will survive meeting them lol. I love Riley’s Bag you just never know what she is going to pull out of it. Please keep up the good work I love reading your books but like I said Riley’s Choice has made me laugh so hard I almost had a little mishap LOL

  • Naomi says:

I’d just like to say, I’ve read all your books and to my surprise I really really enjoyed them all! However I’d just like to say the Choosing Riley is my absolute favourite!!! She’s classy and witty, shows so much spunk and a fabulous sense of humour! I LOVE HER! Thanks for the great reads!

    • S.E. Smith says:

Thank you so very much Naomi! I can’t tell you how much it means that you took the time to share this with me. I love Riley. She is definitely the perfect mate for Vox. I also appreciate her sense of humor and compassion. She is one of those rare heroines that kick’s butt without realizing she is doing it. She is a girly-girly with an enormous heart. Thank you again!

  • Moon says:

Hi! I’ve read so many of your books and I love them, especially the Valdier (both dragons and dragonlings) and Sarafin and Curizan! I was wondering if you’re going to write a book for Blaze later on? He was only mentioned in Paul’s Pursuit but I like him.

  • Signi S. says:

When is Book 3 of the Sarafin Warriors: Heart of The Cat being released? I have just finished Book 2 of the series: Viper’s Defiant Mate, and completely loved it!!! Am “really” looking forward to reading the rest of this series!

    • admin says:

LOL. I’ve promised readers Adalard’s book first. I’m working on several at the moment. I’m hoping to get caught up (don’t laugh! I believe in miracles!) and maybe a little ahead. Okay, now you can laugh. Still, I hope to be able to get to Heart of the Cat by early next year.

      • Heather says:

It’s now Feb. 2016 and I’m wondering if you might have a date for Heart Of The Cat? You said to Signi by early next year and Amazon doesn’t have any info on that nor goodreads either. I’d like to know when to look for this book! Thank you Admin for taking the time to hopefully respond!

        • S.E. Smith says:

Hi Heather. Thank you for writing. Yep, it is definitely February and I’m still trying to find out what happened to 2015! 🙂 I had a few delays due to life. I’ve had a talk with it and we are finally communicating again. I’m writing. Things are a little behind (as usual).
