Born prematurely, Christoff wasn’t as big or as strong as his older brother or the other younglings in the village. Unable to fit in, he does the best he can, helping his father and mother on their farm. His life changes when the mountain near their farm awakens. Believing he is the only one who can quiet it, he retreats to the mountain to watch over the village that shunned him.

A hermit for centuries, he dreams of the day he can move on to his next life; a life that he hopes will give him a chance of finding his true mate. He knows his time has come when the mountain begins to tremble again. What he doesn’t expect is a group of younglings who suddenly appear in the hopes of saving a thing called Christmas. When the mountain erupts, he never expects to awaken on a strange planet light years away, or to meet an unusual woman who sees beneath his deformity to the warrior hidden within.

Can the love of a special woman and her family heal Christoff’s tortured soul? Find out what happens when the Goddess Aikaterina gives The Old Dragon his very own special Christmas.

Teaser/Excerpt:

Christoff’s watched as she continued to tenderly stroke the small furry head lying in her lap. He swallowed at the love and fear in the little girl’s eyes. The only one that had ever looked at him that way had been his mother.

“He’s hurt?” Christoff asked in a husky voice.

“Yes. He try to helps Jabir,” she whispered. “I’s thoughts Roams was goings to die. He’s don’ts knows it’s yet, buts we’s goings to always be’s togethers. The goddess showed me we weres.”

As long as you hold your family and friends close to your heart, you will never be alone.

She had once again been torn when the entrance had caved in. It had been his symbiot’s quiet plea for mercy for its friend and companion that had sealed her decision. The flashes of the old dragon’s life had pierced her resolve. She remembered two other dragons, twin brothers who had felt the pull of the loneliness. It was in part her fault that they had never found their true mate. As her consciousness grew for this species, so did the understanding that she needed to help them if she could.

Floating down, she sat on the edge of the bed. Her gaze softened at Christoff’s calm acceptance of his death. Lifting an invisible hand, she soothed it over his brow, knowing what she had to do.

“Not yet, my warrior,” she softly whispered through his consciousness. “I hope you accept my Christmas gift to you.”

When I read the Dragonling’s Magical Christmas I LITERALLY cried tears of frustration and sadness when I thought Christoff was gonna die after he sacrificed himself to save the little ones and then I cried AGAIN when I found that Christoff lives!! And what’s so great is that he is gonna have his Happy Ever After!! I just can’t wait for this to come out!! You are a really amazing writer Madame Smith coz I rarely find a book that could evoke such strong emotion from me and when that happens I find that book so good that it deserve a goodreads 5 star!! And that’s what your books are!! Thank you and Happy Holidays!!

    1. S.E. Smith says:

Wow! Caren, this is amazing feedback and helps me know that my stories are worth sharing. You’ll need another box of tissue for Christoff’s story. I cried buckets while writing it, but I also laughed out loud. He definitely deserves his HEA!

Thank you for the video, It as great to hear your voice. Knowing how you feel when you write your stories says so much about the heart you have. You are just what I imagined you are a wonderful warm and caring person. All of you shows in your books but it was great to hear you. Thank you for taking me beyond the stars.
P.S. Thank for the advice about the tissues. Um, I also needed them for Saber, it was wonderful.

    1. S.E. Smith says:

LOL. Thank you, Donna. I’ll have to post all the bloopers I made. It took 17 tries before I recorded one without stumbling too badly. I was making faces and doing the blah, blah, blah thing. I thought it might be good to share with everyone why I write the stories and a little behind the scenes of how they came about. Nothing long and draw out, but a little insight into how the worlds came to be. Your feedback shows that it was the right decision! I love knowing the why’s and how-comes. Thank you for sharing this; and yes, you will need a big box of tissues for this story, but I promise, it will leave you smiling.

Hi Susan (from another one – popular name!)
Your video was lovely. You seem like a person I would get on well with. I thought your Christmas letter was really touching. What a lovely family you have. The dog is so cute!

I love your Dragon Lords stories and am going to get the Old Dragon of the Mountain’s Christmas. It is so appropriate for me right now as having lost my husband (he was only 59) two and a half years ago (we were separated but I still loved him – just couldn’t live with him) I have met someone and we are very much in love even though we are only 5 months into the relationship. I am 66 and my partner is 71. Please keep everything crossed for me as I love a HEA and would love to have my own personal one.

    Keep writing your brilliant stories.

    Hugs

    Sue

    1. S.E. Smith says:

Hi Sue. I think you will love Edna and Christoff’s story! I dedicated it to Dulce and Jose (both are in their 80’s). I truly believe love can come when you least expect it and that it is just as real for older couples as it is for the younger. Perhaps more so in many ways because we can appreciate how fortunate we are when we are given another chance to find it. Congratulations and yes, I’ll keep everything crossed for a HEA!

  4. Gail Gober says:

I am so glad you wrote about the old dragon of the mountain. I love all your books and they have really helped me as I have reread them the last few months as my husband of 52 years pasted away very unexpectedly in Aug. and I find reading helps me get through the day. Love your books and have read them all.

    1. S.E. Smith says:

Oh, Linda. I’m so sorry. I’m sending you a huge hug. As long as he is in your heart, he will always be there for you. Live life to the fullest and enjoy the time you have here. There is yet another adventure waiting for you. I hope you see that when you read Christoff and Edna’s story.

    Hi Susan!
Obviously, I’m a huge fan of your work or I wouldn’t be stalking your website. lol…I love your work and very much enjoyed your video explaining your inspiration for The Old Dragon of the Mountain’s Christmas. I also felt a special connection to Christoff when he was introduced in A Dragonlings’ Magical Christmas and I am truly thrilled that he will receive his much deserved happily-ever-after with Edna. It’s so strange how certain characters make an impression on us. Although Edna appeared in the first book of the The Dragon Lords of Valdier Series, I remember her well and was so hoping that she would somehow eventually find her happy ending. It certainly looks like she’ll have company on her mountain this year and I couldn’t be more thrilled that she will find happiness with Christoff. I have to admit, his part in the dragonlings’ story completely broke my heart and resulted in quite a few heartfelt tears and sobs. What can I say? I’m a very emotional reader. Thank you so much for the wonderful worlds, characters and stories you create for us. They have served as my companions and comfort throughout many hours of solitude. I have preordered my copy of The Old Dragon of the Mountain’s Christmas and I very much look forward to reading another of your captivating adventures. I hope you and your wonderful family have a happy, healthy and safe holiday. Hugs! Judy Lewis

    1. S.E. Smith says:

LOL. Stalk away, Judy. I don’t mind at all. Thank you for this beautiful post. You aren’t the only one who laughs and cries during the stories. I definitely did throughout this one, but there were also happy tears mixed with it. I loved Christoff and Edna’s story. Just think what can happen when you see a Dragon fly!

      1. Judy Lewis says:

You totally just made my day! Thank you so much for sharing that little tidbit with me and I know exactly what it means. And I am so happy. I truly believe in Christmas miracles! I can hardly wait for my copy of the book to be delivered on the 22nd. Sometimes Amazon surprises us and delivers a wee bit early on pre-orders but regardless of when I receive my copy, I will most certainly love it! You totally rock S.E. Smith!
        Holiday Hugs!

        1. S.E. Smith says:

Hugs, Judy. xoxox Happy Holidays! <3

  7. Susan says:

When can we order this book thru Barnes & Noble?

    1. S.E. Smith says:

It should be available any day.

  8. mlee says:

Omg!!! This book is out. I was amazed to get it so soon. Especially when I was only expecting Tink’s book out on audible. Only to be shocked again. Hannah’s book is out too. My Christmas came early. I’m sooo… happy. Now if only Jaquin’s book would magically show up too (hint, hint).

I loved the book!!! It made me mad, sad, happy, laugh and awwwww….. Out of all the dragonlings (I love them all) . I want to hear more about Amber and Jade. Cara and Trelon are still my favorite .

    1. S.E. Smith says:

LOL. Now you have me excited!

  9. Cheryl says:

I love the way you describe this story !! And yes I think this video works out perfectly !! And yep already preordered it !

    1. S.E. Smith says:

Thank you, Cheryl! I love discussing the books, characters, and worlds. Thank you for watching and sharing your thoughts with me.

  10. tana hillman says:

Now you have me intrigued! I am hoping that Edna is almost as old as Christoff in this story. It seems that in today’s world, age is only irrelevant in matters of love when the man is older. There are not many heroines past the age of 35, it seems. I am so tired of having to suspend my disbelief while watching TV programs like Modern Family, which asks us to believe that someone like Sofia Vergara would be attracted to a guy who is 30 years older than she is. And so, I am eagerly looking forward to reading a story where BOTH the main characters are mature in years. Thanks for offering us that!

    1. S.E. Smith says:

LOL. You are welcome, Tana. It is also the case with Paul and Morian. While she is MUCH older than he is, technically, he is in his late 40’s. In this story, Edna is in her late 60’s, and while Christoff is still much older, he is also very young in many ways. (I don’t want to give out any spoilers). I promise, it is definitely a case where you are never to old to fall in love!

      1. Sharon Keller says:

Love the video,. Already got the book. Enjoyed as I knew I would, because it was one of your stories. Awaiting the next one,
        love the adventures You create.

        1. S.E. Smith says:

Thank you, Sharon! I hope you have a wonderful holiday season and a very Happy New Year!

  11. Mary Aspinall says:

I thoroughly enjoy your books. However I’m a bit confused not difficult, I appreciate!
Twin Dragons was Book 7 of the series but the Old Dragon is Book 9, what is the title of 8 please? I’m trying to read them in order!
    Mary

    1. S.E. Smith says:

LOL. The squirrels, Mary, I blame it on the squirrels! What happened is I am in the middle of writing Book 8 and Christoff and Edna’s story pops into my head. I wrote a few chapters and knew I had to finish it as it was about Christmas… and so, Book 9 was completed before Book 8. Yes, there is a padded room with my name on the wall somewhere out there. 🙂

  12. Talani says:

I read it aswell , great book in fact read it twice and cried like a baby both times smh hmm so now I’m wondering will there be a second book to Christoff and Edna

    1. S.E. Smith says:

Hi Talani. Yes, there will be more books which will include Edna’s family.

  13. Michelle says:

Will this book become available on audio book? As well as other books in this series that are only in print?

    1. S.E. Smith says:

Hi Michelle. Thank you for your post. Old Dragon will be available in audiobook. It is in production now.

      1. S.E. Smith says:
