What is my writing process like?

Aliens SpacecraftsA question I am often asked is what is my writing process like? How do I know what and who to include in my stories?

To be honest, I don’t have a clue as to who is going to be in my stories or how the stories will evolve. When I sit down to start writing, I know a name (and sometimes even that changes) and not much else.

As I write, the stories play like a movie in my head and I write what I see, hear, smell, feel, taste, etc. It is like I am there. Sometimes I’m laughing as I write, sometimes crying.

You can tell when I’m writing a fight scene as I’m actually moving as I type. I often get so excited that it is hard for me to stop.

What I’m very thankful for is I can write, then ‘pause’ the movie and start up right where I left off! If I couldn’t do that, I would never finish a book.

Sometimes I’ll write thousands of words in a sitting, other times just a line or two. I also write everywhere; in the car, before a movie starts, at a meal, on the boat, or in a meeting. The stories are always there, talking, moving, changing.

Fascinating! My Hubby Shawn is a writer of sorts…he writes the same way you do…only he uses a pencil, has volumes of material in multiple notebooks…its how he relaxes by writing..he also can hit pause and start again…I thought it was just him!

I think you have to do that as a writer because if you don’t, you’d go nuts!

I just want to say that I love all your books. Especially the Dragon Lords, Sarafins and the Curizans. I can’t wait for more to come out. I have also a suggestion about a character for a storyline, just something that has been playing in my head. The female character is in her 30’s with her two young kids running from an abusive ex. She is strong and a survivor but she needs help. As well as love and trust she no longer believes in?

Hi Jennifer. Thank you so much for not only your comment, but your suggestion. I think it is a marvelous idea. We all know what happens to someone who messes with my characters! Trisha’s ex definitely needed an adult diaper after it. LOL. I will definitely keep that in mind.
