Science Fiction Romance is unpopular?!

sci fi romance genre rejected by publishersIn a recent chat with another author,  I was somewhat startled to discover the misconception by publishers who believe readers don’t like Science Fiction Romance.

You would be shocked that traditional publishing houses don’t think of Science Fiction Romance as being a popular genre. I guess they don’t know what they are missing!

I am obviously a fan of sci-fi romance given I write about it and read the genre. What I love about science fiction romance is the possibilities! The chance to see worlds in a whole new way. The chance to discover what could be out there.

In some ways I see my writing a lot like Star Trek with each story being an episode. And each episode contributing to building my worlds. I write sci-fi romance with a combination of Sci-fi, fantasy, shape-shifter, action, adventure, romance, humor, etc. all in one story.  And perhaps this is the problem publishers have with me at least! They have a problem trying to ‘fit’ me into one of their boxes!

To read my full vent, check out my new post over at Starbound Lovers blog.  Maybe someone needs to talk to the publishing houses!

Not popular? Lol, say that to my readers who no sooner finish an abduction or cyborg romance and clamor for the next.

I love Sci Fi romance. My problem is I still can’t find enough new books to read in this genre. I am a fast reader so I usually read 5-6 books a week. I thank you for introducing authors like MK Eidem and Gail Koger to me. When they start crunching sales numbers they will all of a “sudden” start talking about how hot the genre is to the readers. I have seen authors like Lora Leigh come along and then every book they want to publish is shifter romance. I like what I like and don’t worry about what others think, you can laugh all the way to the bank.

What planet are the publishers from? Here on earth we go monkey-bat crazy for sci-fi romance!!!!! I personally believe Star Trek was sci-fi romance: you laughed, cried, got passed, lusted after and couldn’t wait to see what happened next. I’ve become addicted to the whole lot. I am grateful for so many talented and entertaining authors.

I love Science Fiction Romance, it gives me a break from the traditional Shifters, Vampires, and Motorcycle Club books. I read all across the Romance genre but Science Fiction is in my top three of books that I’m always re-reading because I’m in love with the book or I’m waiting for something new to come out in the genre and curbing a craving for the Alien fetish.

Sheesh! What do they know? Don’t listen to them. You just keep hitting the keyboard, and I’ll keep reading!

It makes you wonder what planet those particular publishers are living on because surely they aren’t all totally clueless. We know it’s their loss because I really have loved most of what I’ve read in this genre and of course everything written by you – Susan! It seems from the reviews I’ve read, lots of other people really like this genre also.

Thank you, J. That is one reason that I started writing. I knew what type of characters I wanted to read about and was having a hard time finding them, too. Please take the time to post reviews at the sites that you purchased them and spread the word. That is the best way to let others know about my stories!

Thank you, J. It really means a lot to know that you are enjoying the types of stories/characters that I write. Once of the reasons I started publishing was because I was having problems finding books like mine. Please share with your friends!
